Punjab Government Announces New Winter Timings for Schools

As the chill of winter starts creeping in, the Punjab government has rolled out new school timings for the season. These revised hours will be in place from October 16, 2025, all the way up to March 31, 2026. The goal, according to officials, is pretty simple — to make mornings a bit easier for students and teachers during the cold months.

⏰ Timings for Single-Shift Schools

The Punjab School Education Department has shared slightly different schedules for boys’ and girls’ schools.

For boys’ single-shift schools:

  • Monday to Thursday: 8:45 AM to 2:45 PM
  • Friday: 8:45 AM to 12:30 PM

For girls’ single-shift schools:

  • Monday to Thursday: 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Friday: 8:30 AM to 12:15 PM

Officials said the decision was taken so that students don’t have to step out too early in the chilly mornings, while still keeping their study hours balanced.

Double-Shift School Timings

Schools that run in two shifts will also follow adjusted timings for both morning and evening sessions.

For boys’ double-shift schools:

  • Morning Shift: 8:45 AM to 12:45 PM (Monday to Thursday)
    — 8:45 AM to 12:30 PM (Friday)
  • Evening Shift: 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM (Monday to Thursday)
    — 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM (Friday)

For girls’ double-shift schools:

  • Morning Shift: 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM (Monday to Thursday)
    — 8:30 AM to 12:15 PM (Friday)
  • Evening Shift: 12:45 PM to 4:45 PM (Monday to Thursday)
    — 1:45 PM to 4:45 PM (Friday)

Implementation and Precautions

The provincial education department has directed all District Education Authorities (DEAs) to make sure both public and private schools follow the new timings. Authorities mentioned that this schedule has been set up keeping in mind not just academics, but also students’ health and comfort during the colder season.

School principals have been asked to take extra care of children’s well-being — things like ensuring classrooms are properly ventilated, and encouraging kids to wear warm sweaters, jackets, and caps.

Final Thoughts

This move by the Punjab government shows a genuine concern for students’ comfort and safety during winter. By shifting the schedule slightly later, they’re trying to make school mornings a bit less harsh for everyone.

The new timings will remain effective till March 31, 2026, after which regular summer timings will kick back in. So, for now, students can enjoy those slightly warmer, slower mornings — and maybe even an extra cup of chai before school.
