Visit of the first lady of Islamic of Republic of Pakistan, Mrs. Begum Samina Alvi

The first lady of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mrs. Begum Samina Alvi visited Pakistan Institute of Prosthetic and Orthotic Sciences (PIPOS) on Feb 9, 2021. The visit was the outcome of first meeting of steering committee held on Feb 3, 2021 chaired by the Honorable president of Pakistan, Dr. Arif Alvi at President House and PIPOS was also one of participants. The Ehsas Initiative of Federal Government articulates the provision of assistive devices to Person with Disabilities.   During the visit, the Special Secretary Health, and Director General Health service Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Dr. Maryam from WHO accompanied her. The delegation was briefed by chairman, Dr. Mohammad Ayaz  Khan and Mr. Liaquat Ali Malik, Managing Director, PIPOS. They briefed that PIPOS was autonomous body and had been providing rehabilitation by means of delivering the prosthesis and Orthoses (artificial limbs) since 1981. In addition, they extended that the institute was also giving education to students of BS in the field of Prosthetic and Orthotic. They demonstrated and presented their functions and finest services being pioneer institute of Pakistan in the field of Prosthetic and Orthotic. The first lady met with patients who were under treatment on the basis of internationally accepted standard. She has awarded the gifts to Polio children. In a concluding remarks, the first lady appreciated the services and infrastructure of PIPOS and recognized the importance of such entity which is improving the functioning, well-being and quality of life of Person with Disabilities.
